Publication of Law No. 23-09 dated June 21, 2023, on monetary and banking law, in issue No. 43 of the Official Gazette on June 27, 2023.
This law aims to strengthen the governance of the banking system, led by the Bank of Algeria, and enhance its transparency. It grants new powers to the Monetary and Credit Council, enabling it to accompany ongoing transformations in the banking environment. Additionally, it expands its powers in accrediting investment banks, digital banks, payment service providers, and independent brokers, authorizes the opening of exchange offices, and reinforces the governance and role of the Banking Committee as a supervisory authority.
